5 Real Estate Email Marketing Mistakes You Have to Avoid

Everyone knows that email is a simple, efficient way to reach your clients but, there are some common real estate email marketing mistakes to avoid. Here are the top 5 that will most certainly land your message in the trash bin:

1 – Not Managing Your Database

No one likes to be hassled so make sure your email lists are up to date. Follow through with actively managing those lists by removing people who request to be removed and allow options to receive fewer emails without opting out of all communications. Also, take a moment to look at your approach. If you happen to get a lot of email unsubscribes in a week, perhaps you sent one too many emails that week. Adjust your approach for the future and learn from the indirect feedback your email list is giving you.

2 – Too Much Text

The biggest mistake people make in email marketing is too much text without enough organization. In creating informative emails for your contacts, it is easy to write everything you know about every listing so you can show how knowledgeable you are. Unfortunately, too much information drives away potential clients. Instead of sharing everything you know, think of the email as a teaser that provokes questions. By focusing on a few key points that generate questions, you are setting the hook for follow up conversations where your true knack for the business shines through.

3 – Poor Presentation

Whether you create your own messages or someone creates them for you, make sure your emails look good. First, make sure the images are crisp, clear and sized appropriately. Too many images or ones that are too large may slow down the load time so choose wisely. Second, use color, sizing and fonts tastefully. Too much embellishment can come across as being less than professional or worse, difficult to read.

4 – Not Creating A Personal Connection

Instead of your mailings being all about you and your business, do your best to create a feeling of community among your potential clients. Rather than blasting your customers with featured listings and recent mortgage rates, talk about things that can help them in their everyday lives. You can recap upcoming local events for the month or perhaps an email about weatherproofing their home. This creates a sense of belonging that instills trust and loyalty amongst your client base and they will be more interested in reading future emails from you.

5 – No Calls-to-Action

Showing your face through regular correspondence is great but without a call to action, you might be missing out on potential clients who are on the fence. By making it incredibly simple to get in touch with you through email, Twitter, Facebook, you’ll encourage those folks who are ready to do business, get more referrals and make your newsletter more useful for everybody.

Quality over quantity is a simple guide for your email marketing strategy. By following these basics, you are greatly improving the chances that your messages are doing their job rather than immediately getting sent to the trash bin.
